The Top 10 Classics!

Here is an interesting article from the Guardian newspaper in which Readers are asked to vote for their favourite classics.

Do you know any of these books? If not, why not check in the library and see if any are available in SIMPLIFIED VERSIONS?

If we did a survey of the best books in the Spanish language, which would be your favourites?

Please send me your ideas!

  1. When you love Literature, it's difficult to think of ten books only, but now I'd say the following:
    1. Rayuela, by Julio Cortazar
    2. El Quijote, by Miguel de Cervantes
    3. El Llano en Llamas, by Juan Rulfo
    4. El Aleph, by Jorge Luis Borges
    5. Olvidado Rey Gudu, by Ana María Matute
    6. Cien años de Soledad, by Gabriel García Márquez
    7. El Lazarillo de Tormes, anonymous
    8. La Oveja Negra y demás fábulas, by Augusto Monterroso
    9. El Amor en los Tiempos del Cólera, by Gabriel García Márquez
    10. Cuentos Completos, by Juan Carlos Onetti

  2. Hi Ann!!!
I would recommend you a book called "La sombra del viento", written for Carlos Ruiz Safón.
I really enjoyed the book, the story is really good, the locations, the characters....
If you have the chance of getting it, read it.
    See you next week,
    Zaira.

  5. Hi Annie,

I've got many favourite books but I've choosen the following:

*1. El lazarillo de Tormes, anonymous author. I think it's very good and funny although its vocabulary is completed because it was written during Golden Age. However,There are student versions easier than original.

*2. Leyendas, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. I like it a lot. There are also student versions for this one.
    3. Don Juan Tenorio, José Zorrilla (theatre)
    4. Misericordia, Benito Pérez Galdós (narrative)
    5. Papel mojado, Juan José Millás :) funny
    6. Crónica de una muerte anunciada, Gabriel García Márquez (mystery about a crime)
    7. Arráncame la vida, Ángeles Mastreta (narrative)
    8. La casa de verano, Alfredo Gómez Cerdá :( sad story
    9. Tormenta de verano, Juan García Hortelano (narrative)
10.El doctor inverosímil, Gómez de la Serna :) funny (narrative)

    Enjoy them!!
    Almudena :)
